WKNR AM 1968 Countdown & CHFI New Years Eve 88

***A note to air check traders. Please do not record these air checks and try and trade. I have the original tapes many of which I recorded myself and thus the authenticity can not be in doubt and can be easily traced.

A special anniversary celebration edition.

The first three clips feature DJ’s Alan Busch and Sean Conrad ( at the end) and it’s the completion of the entire Top 113 of 1968 as heard on WKNR AM ( keener 13, Detroit). You can use the search function on the site to find the rest of the countdown but the chart of the top 113 songs and the beginning of the countdown can be found here. The countdown was originally played  in late Dec 1968 and you can now listen 50 years later.

Clips four and five feature Don Daynard and Brian Master from New Years Eve into New Years Day on CHFI FM, Toronto from 1988. The show was Saturday Night Oldies. I featured a short segment from this earlier.

8 Track Recordings

Recordings made off 8 tracks. Not the greatest format but these tracks will help you relive the sometimes not so pleasant memories of 8 track tapes. Selections mostly from the classic free form radio era by Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Pink Floyd, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils and McGuiness Flint plus easy listening extras by Ann Murray and Herb Alpert.

In a Lossless Wav file because with 8 tracks additional  sound degradation should be avoided.

WKNR FM Part 4 Russ Gibb April 1969

***A note to air check traders. Please do not record these air checks and try and trade. I have the original tapes many of which I recorded myself and thus the authenticity can not be in doubt and can be easily traced.

An intriguing clip from the days of true free form featuring Detroit media personality Russ Gibb. There’s one point in the broadcast where Gibb asks listeners to tune into competitor WABX FM while they figure out how to air an audio montage  prepared by a listener. They do figure it out and that montage is quite creative and fits in well with the format. The station was on FM but broadcast in mono.
