Bob Eubanks & Dick Morland KRLA April 18, 1964

***A note to air check traders. Please do not record these air checks and try and trade. I have the original tapes many of which I recorded myself and thus the authenticity can not be in doubt and can be easily traced.

An air check from the time when America was in the throes of Beatlemania featuring future Newlywed game host Bob Eubanks and KRLA veteran Dick Morland.

Bob Eubanks started as a DJ and he was instrumental in bringing the Beatles to Los Angeles in 1964.

I have a few more hours of tape from the station in 1964 including an air check  featuring Casey Kasem. Stay tuned.

  1. What a treasure! Airchecks of Eubanks are extremely rare as he did overnights for much of his stay at KRLA. There’s not a lot of Dick Moreland around either, so this is a treat to hear!

    1. Great Aircheck of KRLA at the top of their popularity in Los Angeles radio ! Bob Eubanks
worked Mid-6 on KRLA from 1960- April of 1962
Then moved to Mornings 6-9 am for a year .
In spring if 1963 he moved to Evenings 6-9 PM ( and Sunday Afternoon Top 30 countdown show)
when Emperor Bob Hudson started doing the Morning Show . Dick Moreland was Music Director and weekend jock when this aircheck was recorded .

  2. Thanks for posting this.

    Anything in your collection of:

    1) Gary Mack 93/KHJ

    2) Lord Tim KFWB

    Thanks, NORM

  3. Dave Hull The Hullabalooer is heard at the beginning of this aircheck. This is a weekend aircheck, counting down the Top 30 TuneDex (Sales Survey). Eubanks normal shift was 6-9 PM, Monday thru Friday (1963-67). Moreland was Music Director. I was Director of Teen Affairs and created and produced Eubanks’ Teen Topper Hour (8-9 PM), saluting a jr/sr high school Monday through Thursday (playing their top 10) and playing the composite Teen Topper Top 10 on Friday.

    1. Nice to hear from you Earl Jive. Was a fan of your show on CFNY. The same tape that this comes from also has a full air check of Dave Hull and I will have to upload that at some point.

  4. I’d love to get a hold of this version of Only The Young that Bob Eubanks plays at the end of his show. It’s slightly different than the Ventures version.

    1. I just searched this version of Only The Young on Shazam and it’s apparently the Champs of Tequila fame.

  5. Bob Eubanks was on the air at KRLA from Midnight to 6AM when I was on KUTY, Palmdale daily. Visits to Bob at KRLA was remembered well: after I completed my shift at KUTY, I would visit Bob when he was on the air at night, broadcasting from the Huntington Hotel in Pasadena. (1962) His competition would have been KFWB, LA. Dick Moreland handled the news.
Bob had also been a student at the Don Martin School of Broadcasting in Hollywood.

    1. Do you happen to have any airchecks of Bill Slater on KFWB or KRLA? I’ve heard him with Bob Eubanks, Casey Kasem, Dick Biondi and others introducing the Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl. I worked with him in the 1980’s in Texas. He was a great guy and a real pro. He had a lot of great stories about the LA days. I would really appreciate hearing some of these if you have them. Thank you!
